Caribbean Adventures: Pt 2

The beginning of our trip (Caribbean Adventures: Pt 1) was a perfect way to start our experience on the islands. St. Croix is such a beautiful island – that’s where we spent the majority of our time. Throughout my trip I also was able to visit St. Thomas and see St. John and some of the British Virgin Islands (from a distance). On day number 3 we had a flight scheduled to travel to St. Thomas where we were able to spend the day/night on a yacht!

Day 3: Boardwalk and Hotel on the Cay

On day 3 we started the morning by relaxing out by the pool. Later that day we traveled to St. Thomas via sea plane for an overnight trip. The sea plane flight wasn’t until the afternoon, so we spent the morning/early afternoon on the boardwalk in Christiansted. From the boardwalk we took a quick ferry (I believe it was $5 per person) over to Hotel on the Cay and spent some time checking out the beach, ocean, and beach bar on that small island. The water was clear blue and the bottom was so sandy – next time I hope to spend more time over there.

Seaplane & Yacht

Flying on a seaplane was a really cool experience. It’s definitely way different than your average commercial flight. When we arrived it was like a mini airport where you check your bag and get your boarding pass. The plane was pretty small but there were a good handful of other people that were also on that flight. The flight from St. Croix to St. Thomas was like 30 minutes or so. It was so cool flying over the ocean like that. I had a window seat so I got some cool pics & videos.

When we got to St. Thomas we took a taxi to the marina that the yacht was at. My cousin’s girlfriend who was in our group of 4 has a brother who is the captain of a yacht, so we had a really unique and lucky opportunity to go out on the yacht for a night. We had a private chef on board who took care of snacks and meals. The yacht was stocked with snacks, alcohol, and other beverages. We each had our own bed. Check out pictures of the yacht on the website so I can show off how incredible it was 😉 we spent the night anchored in Brewers Bay. The next day we snorkeled off the yacht – we saw a couple things (including a starfish!) but nothing too wild because the reef was mostly dead in our area.

Back to St. Croix

We had our flight back to St. Croix later that afternoon again via sea plane. When we got back to St. Croix we headed back to the house we were staying at which was about 25 minutes from the boardwalk area. That evening we all just napped and relaxed until we were ready for dinner. We decided to check out the casino nearby that we had been curious about. It’s called Carina Bay – it’s right on the water and looked really beautiful. The restaurant was in the casino and the casino building was separate from the rest of the resort. The food was good, nothing special. The casino was pretty dead. We each played slots for a bit, had a drink, and then we left to go check out the rest of the resort.

The rest of the resort along the water included the hotel, bar, pool, and beach. It was super cute! The resort is all inclusive but we were allowed to walk around and check everything out. It happened to be karaoke night so we walked down to the bar and beach area to check it out. The beach looked really nice and well maintained. Check out Carina Bay’s website to see more pictures. We looked on their website and saw they had some pretty good deals coming up too.

That wrapped up day 4 for us. We were all still feeling wiped from our seaplane and yacht excursion and decided to go back home to relax and go to bed!

Day 5 – The final full day

On Friday morning my cousin Megan & I had a pre-scheduled tattoo appointment to get palm tree tattoos together (see pics below). Anytime we go on a trip together we want to get a small tattoo to signify it. I know, we’re cute 😊 After the tattoos were done we spent more time at the boardwalk and then went back to our house to eat some of the food we still had there. We hung out at the house until the evening.

That evening we had a night-time kayak trip planned. We had see-through kayaks which was pretty cool. The weather conditions weren’t right for us to do what we originally had planned, so the guide ended up taking us on the bioluminescent kayak trip. It was super cool and I got to touch a jelly fish. Unfortunately by the time we got done, most food places on the island were closing up. Things close pretty early there. Luckily we went to Cheeseburgers in America’s Paradise right on time and we were able to get some food to go. Then, time to go back and pack up 😢

The last morning we woke up, packed up, and left. We spent some time eating lunch on the boardwalk before heading to the airport. Back home to the snow 😢

  • Things close pretty early, even bars and restaurants close at 10pm.
  • Mentally prepare for the driving. You drive in the left lane over there and people drive absolutely crazy.
  • I highly recommend everything I tried/did.
  • Groceries are pretty spendy. Liquor and cigarettes are cheap.
  • They love their seafood, but there are still plenty of other delicious food options everywhere you go.
  • You have to try the Cruzan Confusion drink. They serve it all over the island and it’s amazing.

And if any of you are planning to go soon, I can fit in a suitcase.
